Other InformationThe New University of Cologne was founded in 1920, along with the UCL Cologne. The library's old holdings originate from the Syndicate Library, a reference library with predominantly legal works for the work of the City Council. Valuable holdings in the library also come from the so-called Gymnasialbibliothek. It goes back to the collection of the Jesuit College in Cologne, which was dissolved in 1773. During the French occupation, the library also took many other books from Cologne monasteries and the old Cologne grammar schools.
