Altre informazioniCreated in 1682 as a Seminary of s. John. In 1865, two other archdiocesan seminaries, the seminary of Holy Cross (Warsaw, Congregation of the Mission) and the seminary of Łowicz (Monastery of St. Bartholomew in Łowicz), both run by Lazarists, were incorporated into St. John Seminary Library. In 1863 the suppressed Polish monasteries' collections were divided between the University of Warsaw Library and the Metropolitan Seminary Library. In 1866, after numerous suppressions, the Seminary Library received also the Warsaw monastic libraries of the Augustinians, Bernardines, Dominicans, Discalced Carmelites, and Trinitarians. In 1867 the Tsarist government closed the Theological Academy in Warsaw, whose books were also incorporated (after 12 years, in 1887) into the Seminary Library. Theological Academy was created in 1825 on the basis of doubles donated by the University of Warsaw Library, therefore today Met. Sem. Library preserves also books with University of Warsaw Library provenances.
