Other Information(Ravenna, 1698 - Rome, 1774); a member of the Benedictine Congregation of Mount Cassino (OSBCas.) of Ravenna, S. Vitale, from 1713; abbot from 1740; on the verso of the front parchment endleaf, in black ink: «Est s. Vitalis Ravenne ad usum R[everendissi]mi P. D. Petri Pauli Ginanni a Ravenna AB»; the period of acquisition can be defined between 1740, his abbacy, and 1742/3 when he becomes abbot of S. Pietro in Assisi, and head of S. Paolo Rome respectively. He left to S. Vitale his numismatic and epigraphic collection and enriched the library with manuscripts and printed volumes; Maria Pia Donato in DBI, LV, 2000, pp. 8-9.
During the period 1797-1799 the order was suppressed and their possessions sold; see Umberto Marcelli, Le vendite dei beni ecclesiastici a Bologna e nelle Romagne (1797-1815), «Atti e memorie della deputazione di storia patria per le province di Romagna», n.s., 1956-1957, pp. 247-333: 261 n. 45 «Elenco degli acquirenti dei beni alienati del soppresso monastero di S. Vitale in Ravenna ecc. dal primo Agosto 1797 a tutto Maggio 1799 ecc. (Ravenna, Archivio di Stato, S. Vitale 2593)»: apparently 14 nobles, 7 among bankers, professionals, and a forman, and about 25 other persons whose social condition is not known acquired ecclesiastical property; see also Archivio notarile di Ravenna, N. 2095. This book was either sold then or taken away.
Some of the books entered the local biblioteca Classense in 1804; a number of Ginanni's manuscripts bear a printed label with the same inscription as above.
