Other Information The Albani family from Urbino collected, mainly during 18th century, an important library, of which relevant testimonies are now preserved in the Library of Montpellier. The library survived largely until the beginning of the 20th century, when it was sold by the heirs to the Catholic University of America of Washington. Among the most important member, Alessandro (1692-1779) and Giovanni Francesco (1649-1721), elected pope with the name of Clement XI in 1700.
In 1798-99 french revolutionists confiscated Albani's assets and removed most of their artistic and bibliographic collections.
