NoteLegendäre Gründung des Grossmünstertstifts durch Karl den Grossen, die Bibliothek ist durch Statuten aus dem Jahr 1259 bezeugt. Mit der Reformation erfolgten 1523 eine Reorganisation des Stifts und 1532 der Aufbau der reformierten Stiftsbibliothek. 1832 Aufhebung des Stifts, die Bücher wurden in die Kantonsbibliothek Zürich überführt.
