Altre informazioniBiblioteka Jagiellonska (the Jagiellonian Library), the oldest scientific library in Poland, was primarily located in the Collegium Maius, the oldest university building in Poland. The Collegium Maius building was bought in 1400 by the king Ladislaus Jagello from a Krakow's town councillor Piotr Gerhardsdorf (Gersdorf), and given to the University. The first floor of the building housed libraria (the library). The building was redecorated in 1840-1870 when it was designed to serve exclusively as the University Library. Collegium Maius was the library seat till 1940 when the library moved to a new location on Aleja Mickiewicza 22, Krakow, and the Collegium Maius was transformed in the Jagiellonian University Museum. The "Collegium Maius" provenances are to be considered exclusively as university library provenances.
