weitere InformationEducated at Elizabeth College in Guernsey, and then at Blundell's School in Tiverton, before going to Trinity College, Cambridge. Professor of Classical and General Literature at the East India Company College, 1830-1850; Regius Professor of Divinity at Cambridge University, 1850 onward. Dean of Lincoln, 1864, but he retained his Regius chair for six more years (ODNB). Lincoln Cathedral apparently had high hopes of a bequest of his library, but it was sold after his death.
