weitere InformationDemetrios Mostras was one of the greatest Greek book collectors of his era. Born in Arta. He served as the secretary of Ignatius, Metropolitan of Wallachia and he spent many years in Pisa, Italy. His library was consisted of about 12.000 volumes. In 1830, after Ignatius's death, he moved to Corfu, where he died twenty years later. He donated part of his books in small Greek libraries in Missolonghi (1824), in Konitsa (1834) and in Arta (1846). After his death, his library was bequeathed to his relatives, K.G. Mostras [Owner Id: 00017154] and Spyridon Komnos. In 1855, the Ionian Government bought a part of his library for the Public Library of Corfu. Other books and manuscripts were bought in London and Paris. Sixteen titles of his library were donated to the National Library of Greece by his nephew, K.G. Mostras.
