AnmerkungRosenthal retired from active management in 1923, but continued to be involved with the firm until his death. His son Nathan (Norbert) managed the firm during this time, and after Ludwig's death. The other two sons developed their own firms, Heinrich in Switzerland from 1931.

AnmerkungFritz Rosenthal and his wife Hilde fled in 1937 to Ther Hague, the Netherlands, and took 3000 of their books with them to continue the firm. At the begining of the war, they moved to Hilversum. In 1942 they went into hiding. After the war they tried to relocate the books they left in Munchen to Hilversum. After the death of Fritz in 1955, Hilde continued the firm and in 1989 their daughter Edith took over.
