"After [Martin Kalbfleisch’s] death some of his rarest treasures were bought from his son through J[ames]. O[sborne]. Wright [1851-1920] by Alexander Maitland, who gave them to the [New York Public] Library [in 1899]" (NYPL Bulletin, vol. 24 (1920):615. For the inventory see NYPL Bulletin, vol. 3 (1899), p. 9-22.) There is a slight chance that the “son” referred to above may actually have been Charles Conover Kalbfleisch. "In 1898 the Kalbfleisch collection was sent to London for business reasons but after remaining there a number of years came back to New York and several collectors, including Marshall Lefferts, Wilberforce Eames and Robert Hoe were invited to look at it. ... E. Dwight Church was another buyer, but no Kalbfleisch books were sold at auction." (Cannon, "American Book Collectors and Collecting" (1941), p. 112-13.) Charles Conover Kalbfleisch's library, however, was auctioned at Parke-Bernet, New York, 10 January 1944.
He used a red leather Ex Libris with the letters CKC.
