The library was at Sheldon's house, Weston House, Long Compton, Warwickshire. He died childless, and his property passed to a cousin, Ralph Sheldon of Steeple Barton, Oxfordshire (d.1720); whose grandson, William, died 1780 without issue (and with four sisters in convents on the continent), leading to the 1781 sale.
