De Servais was a wealthy lawyer in Mechelen (Belgium). He was a friend of Charles van Hulthem, the famous botanist and bibliophile. He experimented in his large garden with native and exotic trees and plants and has published about it. After his dead, Charles Van Hulthem bought a large part of his books.
