Other InformationBorn in Spain, he became a Jesuit. After the suppression of the Jesuits by Pope Clement XIV in 1773, he went on to live in Brussels where his mother's relatives were from. With the help of his uncle Simon de Santander who had a large book collection himself, Charles-Antoine was initiated in bibliophily. He was subsequently appointed librarian at the École centrale de Bruxelles and he became an expert on incunabula. De la Serna Santander was the librarian of the Royal Libary in Brussels from 1795-1811.
