Piper, Medieval Manuscripts in British Libraries, vol. 4 (Oxford, 1992), 691, with the breviaries described on 756-9, 761, and 763-4; Fothergill's interest in liturgical books is shown in his letter to Richard Richardson, 23 Aug. 1718 [Bodleian Library, MS. Radcliffe Trust c. 3, fol. 64]. Fothergill's books are often marked with his motto: Fortit[er] et suaviter.
