Altre informazioniBorn in Kent to Scottish parents, he travelled to Greece with Byron to fight for Greek independence. He then settled near Athens and spent there the remainder of his life, writing articles for the London Times but, most importantly, working on his History of Greece, published between 1843 and 1861. After Finaly's death, his large collection of antiquities, together with his library, first returned to Scotland, then, in 1899, it finally returned to Athens, where in the meanwhile the British School at Athens had been founded (1866).
