weitere InformationGreek industrialist and politician. First-born son of Ioannis Kyriazis (1853-1919), from Kissos, Greece, who founded the cigarette empire Kyriazi Freres. His mother Maria (Marilita) Ritonides was from a rich ship-owner family. He was born in Cairo, but grew up in Volos, Greece, where he was first educated. Kyriazis married Angela Synnefia and had one daughter, Maria Kyriazis Spentsa.
Kyriazis left his large collection of books and documents (concentrating primarily on the Balkans) to his daughter Maria Kyriazis Spentsa, who in turn bequeathed a part to the Gennadius Library and another to the Benaki Museum (founding the Damianos Kyriazis wing of the Benaki Museum), in two separate donations, in 1953 and in 1996.
