Founded around 1450, the library of the prince-bishop of Eichstätt was enriched by private collections in 17th and 18th century. During the secularization it was the collecting point for the collections of the dissolved houses and also became the core of the University Library (BSB provenance index). The Prince-Bishopric, though, was secularized in 1802. Possibly in that occasion some of the books were given away [A. Panzanelli].
