Ellis in 1902 (the form Ellis & Elvey was apparently discontinued some years earlier), from which time the business was carried on by Ellis's former assistants James Joseph Holdsworth and George Smith. (Not to be confused with the firm of Peter Ellis.) Smith published a history of the firm (and its predecessors) in 1928, as The oldest London bookshop (not yet available for consultation).
