NoteProfessor of legal history at the University of Munich, specializing in Germanic/Nordic legal and constitutional history, and with particular interest in Icelandic literature, history, language and culture. He was an advocate for Icelandic political independence from Danish rule. His library was sold in 1903, chiefly to Harvard University; other portions went to the bar association of New York, and are now in the law libraries of Yale University and George Washington University. The catalogue of his library includes a list of his publications.
