Provenance TypeManuscript Notes
Manuscript notesAnnotations in English and Latin in at least three early hands. One hand, in a light ink, makes a doodle on h3r, and possibly an autograph on D6r: “Richard Roger”. On z5r, there is a note by another reader, in an early secretary hand, about Queen Isabella; the same hand appears on m6r. A different early hand, in dark ink, breaks the sections of the text chronologically, marking dates with “anno dm.” in the margin. Miscellaneous other reader marks and pen trials may be from this period. Many are illegible because cut off.

Provenance TypeManuscript Notes
Manuscript notesAnnotations in at least three late sixteenth- or early seventeenth-century hands. One, in an elegant italic, occasionally extracts key words, usually names. Another, in a more relaxed, rounded italic, also extracts key words, and makes two comments about the collation: on o8r, “here lacks 2 leaves”, and on p4r, “here wants a leaf”. There are no leaves missing and both the indicated leaves have no annotations, suggesting that this is a composite copy created sometime after the seventeenth century, or whenever these notes were made.
Pen trials of several signatures, probably from this period, appear on D2r; some are cut off, but they clearly include “walto[n]” and “Thom[as]”. Some additional reader marks and pen trials may be from this period.
