Binding noteSixteenth-century full calf over wooden boards; upper cover only; blind tooled to a panel design; outer border made using a floral roll (Oldham, Basil, Englsih Blind-Stamped Bindings (1952), plate XLIII, FL.a(4) 707); the central panel decorated with a lozenge design, the spaces filled with blind impressions of a half lattice tool (Oldham (1952), plate LVII, B.(5) 973); sewn onto five split tanned leather thongs; direct-lettered in MS vertically on the fore-edge: Zabar in Clem Zabarella svp Clemenas; direct lettered in MS horizontally on fore-edge: Zabarella in Clem; traces of two clasps at the fore-edge with the hinges on the upper cover; a fragment of 14th- or 15th-century manuscript waste bound in spine; these tools attributed by Oldham to a London binder; according to Oldham, bindings by this workshop found on books printed between 1492 and 1527 (see: Oldham (1952), p. 48).
