noteInserted note on the rear pastedown stating the following in Spanish:
'NICODEMUS ''THE GOSPEL OF NICODEM JESUS CHRIST LIBOIPULI" n.l.t.a. (MELCHIOR LOSSER) (LEIP ZIG NOT AFTER 1498) 4°: eleven leaves. Signature A6-B5. Bastard Gothic characters, pages of 42 liness. A beautiful capital F "s bottom crible".
10.000.-pesos.
f. one correct: title: "The Gospel of Nicodemus of our Lord/disciple of Jesus Christ: of his passion./Based on the law and the prophets extracted from the anti-/most books well corrected and newly printed.".f. one verso: blank. h.com rects: comienza el texto: "Euangeliu.Nicodemi Jesu christi discipu-". f. one recto, at the end: "Adam, the father of man./FINIS."
Elegant and beautiful incunabulum, printed according to the technicians who examined it by Melchior Lotter in Leipzig, before 1498; the British museum does not have it, unknown to Burger, cited by Hain, but not seen. The Gospel of Nicodemus is one of the "apocrypha", rejected by the Church and therefore considered "non-canonical". In front of line 7 of the sheet you can read this suggestive annotation in writing apparently from the end of the XV century: ab ecclesia reprobetum". This ecclesiastical persecution explains the pilgrim rarity of this book. Good complete copy. The first leaf is restored in the margin without touching the text. Somewhat short of the upper margin and the external one. Magnific and perfect monastic binding of the 18th century in violet moroccan, artistically decorated with ‘fierres frios’ with four cords and cold fillets. They are to notice the "basic gothic" characters in which I print this book because they are a great beauty.'
stampsNoteAn illegible sticker visible on rear pastedown, upper right corner.
price10.000 Pesos Probably on sale with seller for this price.
