Provenance

Binding note15th c. Gothic full leather binding. Blind stamped brown tanned skin. 1/3 of the front board lost, rear board intact. Leather in a poor condition, scared, with holes on the front. Worn out on the back, board cracked in several places and wood occasionally exposed. Model hardly visible, combination of vegetation with different patterns. Spine scared at the top and bottom. At the top: new label pasted over the remains of an older one. Four catch-plates originally, none preserved. Straps lost.

Decoration NoteOnly one decorated major initial on f. aa1r. Historiated initial “P” of “Propheta magnus” (9-10 lines): ornamental letter in purple/burgundy with a brown lining decorating the bowl of P on the inside. Letter placed on a gold background. A figure dressed in a brown robe sits inside the letter holding a purple book. Foliage in blue and green extends from the foot and top of the letter down the page. Additional circular elements added in yellow. Several pen flourishes in black ink.
An asymmetric heraldic frame was added in the lower margin in blue; decorated with a purple ribbon at the top, text in gold with abbreviation mark above: “IHS” (37 x 30mm, approx.)
Alternating red and blue lombards throughout (3-8 lines).
