NoteThe book was bound for Candidus Pfiffer. He was Abbot of the Cistercian monastery of Baumgartenberg (Upper Austria) between 1684–1718. Multiple disagreements with the abbot Klemens Scheffer of Heiligenkreuz during the 1670s prompted Pfiffer’s dismissal from the monastery. Upon his return on February 6, 1683, he rose to an influential position at Baumgartenberg, while also acting as an advisor for three emperors (Leopold I, Joseph I and Charles VI). He continued the renovation project begun by his predecessor and, most importantly, contributed many valuable books to the existing library.
The inscription on the coat of arms reads: "Candidus Abbt. zu Baumgartenberg"
