Binding noteBinding: England, 17th-century calf, covers have a blind fillet border and a centre panel formed by blind fillets with ornaments in blind added at its outer corners; title "Promptoriu[m]" written in ink across fore-edge; bunch of grapes watermark on rear flyleaves; rebacked in 19th century - no evidence survives of original spine. Size: 278 x 197 mm.
msNoteAnnotations: a few marginal annotations (mainly extracting Latin keywords) in a 16th-century hand in gatherings a-b, and very occasional marginal notes thereafter; on q1v a quotation in a 16th-century hand based on 2 Corinthians 6:3 "Nemini dantes ullam offensionem ..."; on q2r an unidentified quotation in the same hand; an annotation in a different 16th-century hand on i6r "In the name of God and the"; the entry for "Pope" on m5v is deleted in ink; extract from a bookseller's (or auction) catalogue pasted onto front free endpaper "186 Promptuarium Parvulorum - The Author of this Book was a preaching or Black Frier, his Name was Richard Fraunces; this is a very rare Book; see Hearne's Langtoft's Chronicle, Vol. 2d, page 624 and 5. printed by Rich. Pynson, 1499".
