bindingNoteBinding: France, 18th-century blue morocco decorated with triple gold fillets, a small gold fleuron at each corner; marbled endpapers; gilt-edged leaves; red silk bookmark. Size: 340 x 232 mm.
decorationNoteDecoration: on [a1r] (leaf [5r]) a gold framework surrounds the text - providing a trellis for white vine decoration defined in crimson, blue and green; on the same page is a five-line initial 'P' in gold which is set on a similar square ground of white vine decoration, and a two-line initial 'A' set on a square ground of red, blue and green, with the painted arms of the Bentivoglio family of Bologna incorporated into the lower border (see Provenance); within the text thirteen other illuminated initials are supplied with white vine decoration extending into the margins, and a three-line illuminated initial 'Q' with white vine decoration is supplied on [*1r] (leaf [1r]) i.e. the first page of the Registro; each line of the Registro introduced with a paragraph mark supplied in alternate red and blue. See Nigel Thorp, 'The glory of the page' (London: 1987), no. 93.
msNoteAnnotations: ink foliation in an early hand "2-240" beginning with the second page of text i.e. [a2] (leaf [6]).
