Manuscript Notes
Binding noteBlind-tooled calf over wooden boards (some restoration to the spine; probably not fully rebacked); sewn on five split thongs, attached to the boards with wooden pegs; corner and center bosses on both covers; two fore-edge clasps with square decorative metal catches an catch-plates (on front cover), approximately 30 x 30 mm; pastedowns (apparently 14th-century ms., leaving offset on front turn-ins), revealing 5 parchment or pigskin supports, laced into the boards, as well as head- and tail-lacings; ms. title label on front cover (20 x 105 mm), and remains of another label below it (approximately 60 x 70 mm); remains of another label at top of spine; parchment quire guards cut from a manuscript (an unused strip of the manuscript was laid in between leaves 1/2 and 1/3); two edge studs (nails with large rounded heads, also called "sabots" or "feet") in the bottom edge of the back board (corresponding holes in the front board may exist, but are difficult to detect, perhaps filled in and covered at the time of conservation). Conservation work in 2007 by Mindy Dubansky is described thus: "Reattached boards, repaired joints and hinges."
