NoteIncludes bookplates (two instances). The bookplate located on the page opposite a1 depicts the portrait engraving of Samuel Pepys in oval surround, created by Robert White in 1690, after the Sir Godfrey Kneller portrait. The bookplate includes Pepys's motto as subscript. Also includes an example of the 'rear bookplate' created by [?] Sutton Nicholls (fl. 1680-1729), with stylised fouled anchors and rope design, and Pepys's motto, this being situated on the lower endpaper.
