Areae-gx
Time period1475 - 1500
Provenance nameAnonymous, Germany, 1475-1500 [Person; Binder] (Unknown, Unknown, Unknown)
Provenance TypeBinding
Binding noteSheep, stained red, over wooden boards; ms. title label on spine; small label with printed number "64" below title label; small label with ms. number "7" above title label; number "147" written twice on spine. Two circular metal fasteners on back cover, with remains of straps; no catch-plates on front cover, but two holes approximately 1/3 of the way from the fore-edge probably held some form of connector for the straps/catches. Two fragments of early mss. used as front pastedowns; the upper one with text largely worn or washed away; the lower one a bifolium, written in four different hands, apparently a Dominican breviary, perhaps with portions erased and rewritten at a later period. A portion of a larger leaf of a different manuscript used as the rear pastedown, covering only half of the board. Ms. signatures, consisting of the number of the quire: on the recto of the first leaf of the quire, at the foot, sometimes all the way into the inner margin, sometimes closer to the center, in arabic; on the verso of the last leaf of the quire, in the lower inner margin, in lower-case roman (many trimmed away); the missing first quire ([a]^4) is not included in the signatures. Quire guards cut from a parchment manuscript.
