Ne timeas, inquit mulier, lapidemque revolvens, Denies huic misero fregit in ore viro'. Decoration
NoteInscription in light brown ink at foot of [a2r], later crossed out in black ink and now cropped. The inscription also included an emblem, with an escutcheon truncated and bipartite, the upper half containing two stars. The same emblem is drawn in the garland which is part of the woodcut border at the beginning of the fables on leaf [g1r] (see below).
Decoration NoteAll the illustrations have been water-coloured by an amateur decorator. The colouring is not completed in any of the woodcuts and in many of them only one of two colours have been added. Colours used include green, light yellow, vivid red and light blue. Some of the borders have also been touched in yellow and/or red.
The shield of the woodcut border marking the beginning of the fables, on [g1r], was filled with the truncated and bipartite escutcheon already seen on [a2r], this time coloured in red and uncropped.
