Binding noteBrown tanned skin over wooden boards tooled in blind probably in the workshop ‘Hirsch am Zaun Straubing’ at Augsburg (EBDB w002141). Two sets of ‘thin-thick-thin’ lines forming a frame filled with fleur-de-lys roll, one set of ‘thin-thick-thin’ line forming a second frame filled with two flower stamps, one set of ‘thin-thick-thin’ line forming a frame filled with three rows of geometrical roll. Remnant of a central clasp hanging on the lower cover. Yellow edges. Rolls nos r000631 and p001292(?), stamps nos s013434 and s013442. According to EBDB, this workshop was active between c. 1473 and 1494. The stamps and rolls used to decorate this binding however match EBDB records although the book was printed in 1495. The identification of the binding has been provided by Scott Husby.
