Description de la reliureHalf white tanned skin over wooden boards tooled in blind by the binder Johannes II, active between 1478-1501 (EBDB w000124). Set of ‘thin-thick-thin’ lines forming a frame filled with two lozenge-shaped fleur-de-lys and lozenge-shaped flower stamps, stamp ‘Johannes’ below the frame on the front cover. Remnant of two clasps hanging on the lower cover. Plain edges. Contemporary paper pastedowns on which a fragment (parchment?) containing manuscript text has been pasted and two endleaves at the front cover only. Stamps nos. s010125, s010130 and s010131 (one lozenge-shaped flower stamps not recorded in EBDB). The identification of the binding has been provided by Scott Husby.

The book is recorded in the catalogue of Van Ess’s incunabula ‘Catalogus Incunabulorum Professoris et Doctoris Theol. L. Van Ess, Darmstadlt[sic], Nunc in Bibliothecâ Phillippicâ deposit’ (Middle Hill, c. 1824), that Phillipps printed shortly after the sale, see p. 32, no. 384.
