Provenance TypeManuscript Notes
Manuscript notesThere are numerous textual corrections in black ink. All of these corrections are concerned with differences between the text of this edition and the 1462 Fust and Schoeffer Bible, and evidently this volume was corrected side-by-side against a copy of the earlier edition. There are a few marginal references to the liturgical calendar. These, along with several passages marked in the margin with a pattern of three dots, suggest that this volume was used for reading aloud, perhaps in a refectory.

Manuscript notesBibliographical notes in two hands on one of the front endpapers. An early 19th century hand describes this as a copy of the 1462 Fust and Schoeffer Bible. A late 19th century hand records that in 1885, J.S. Watson compared this with copies of the bible at the Bodleian and ascertained that this was a copy of the 1472 edition.

noteA letter kept with the volume shows that it was given by Mrs S.C. Boys to Winchester College in the early 1940s. The letter is dated only by the day and the month, but references to the Second World War and ARP precautions suggest that it was written in or around 1940. Mrs Boys's brother, A.J. Watson had beeen a pupil at Winchester (1889-95).
