noteA letter from Panizzi to Grenville was attached to the fly-leaf of the book (the written side of the sheet is now detached). It concerns the rarity of the book and the real quality of the language of the paratexts: "[...] I have never heard of any other copy of it but one in the Library of Stuttgart and another in the Magliabechiana at Florence. Dr Dibdin says that it has a 42 lines in each column, which is not always true: in some cases the lines are 45. Nor is it correct to say that it is dedicated to Honofrio Caracciolo: it is dedicated to the Eletti (viz. the Magistrates elected by the people) of the city of Naples. Caracciolo was one of them, but his name is followed by those of four others in Tuppo's address: which address is not in the Neapolitan dialect, but in a kind of bastard Italian somewhat tinged with the writer's dialect. [...] The text also of this edition is very remarkable for its excellent various readings, so that in every respect this is an addition to your collection well worthy of it. [...] The arms at the bottom of the first leaf were those of the Ginori of Florence. [...]". The letter is dated North Gower Street, 6th May 1835.
