Honorabilis d[omi]n[u]s Johannes de Boytgen-/bach Canonicus predicte ecclesie. contulit atq[ue] dedit p[rese]ntem libru[m] qui Jntitulatur Catholicon-/ ponendu[m] in libraria[m] ip[s]ius eccl[es]ie Jn remediu[m] et salutem a[n]i[m]e sue. Orate pro ipso' on leaf [a1] recto, about 1483, recording the gift of the book by Johannes de Boytgenbach or Bütgenbach [in Wallonia, Belgium], Canon of the Church of SS. Chrysanthus und Daria of the Benedictine monastery at Bad Münstereifel, Germany [the monastery was founded in 830 and dissolved in 1802]. Inscribed 'Mathias Zenzen Pastor in Valwig hat dem / Herren Pastor Hugo in Ediger dieses Buch / den 24 Sempteber [sic] 1851 geschenkt' on leaf [a1] recto, recording the gift of the book in 1851 by Mathias Zenzen, parish priest in Valwig (1817-1854), to Hugo Friedrich Schwickerath, parish priest in Ediger (1847-1860), followed by a bibliographical note on the text in red ink signed by 'Schwickerath parochus'. Lot 3130 in an unidentified German sale or bookseller catalogue. Marked 'N. 9' and 'fe 750' in pencil on upper pastedown and '1632,00 / 42.- [crossed away] / 35.-' in pencil on leaf [a1] recto. UkCU,Inc.0.A.2.2[79]: Provenance (with price): Inscribed 'Anno d[omi]ni M° cccc° Septuagesi[m]o octauo / hic liber [com]p[er]at[us] est p[er] Re[ueren]d[um] in [christ]o p[a]t[r]em Abbate[m] / d[omi]n[u]m Paulu[m] Mona[ster]ij Campililior[um] unacu[m] / ligatu[r]a p[ro] 7 flor[inis. Renens[is].' in red on leaf [R7] verso, recording the purchase of the book in 1478 by Paul III, Abbot of the Cistercian monastery at Lilienfeld, Lower Austria, for 7 Rheingulden. Marked 'N. 94' [crossed out], 'V.N.21' [crossed out], 'D.7', 'N. 2257', and '+/se/-', all in pencil on upper pastedown. John Couch Adams, Lowndean Professor of Astronomy, his bookplate and shelfmark 'Adams 1.47.1' in ink on upper pastedown. Adam's bequest to Cambridge University Library in 1892; the mark '94; 1' is probably a University library purchase note.
