The first sentence is a quote from Ovid's Ars Amatoria (Ars. Am. 2. 177).
        His autograph also appears twice on f. 1 recto. On the same page is again the saying 'Perfer et obdura', although here damaged by water. It is followed here by a quotation from Horace, unfotunately hardly legible due to the water damage.
